What We Do

Four Ways We Handle RV Generators

Whether the coach came off the dealer lot without a genset, the old unit finally gave up, or you just need a diagnostic before the next trip — we’ve got the right work order for it.

New Installation

Bay was empty from the factory, or you’re upgrading from portable power to hardwired onboard. We handle the mount, fuel line, exhaust, transfer switch, and control panel — turnkey.

In-Shop Swap

Old genset failed, tired, or just noisy? Bring the coach to Plymouth. We pull the failed unit, install the current-gen replacement, retie the fuel and exhaust, and load-test before you leave.

Mobile / On-Site

Coach parked at home, storage, or a campground? For diagnostic work, tune-ups, brush replacements, and most repairs, our van comes to you across central IN and Michiana.

Diagnostic & Repair

Won’t start, won’t hold voltage, throws a code, or making a new noise? We diagnose Onan units end-to-end — carb, fuel pump, control board, brushes, AVR, ATS, and everything in between.

The Full Onan Lineup

Every Onan RV Generator, By Coach Class

Onan — owned by Cummins — is the OEM in almost every North American motorhome. Here’s the current catalog, from the little QG 2800i for Class B vans up to the QD 8000 diesel inverter in the biggest Class A pushers.

Every RV genset job is different — coach make, compartment size, fuel routing, and exhaust path all change the labor. We quote each install and swap free, in writing, after we look at the coach. Call (574) 936-9715 or request a quote below.

Family 1 of 2 — Gasoline & LP

Why Banner Electric

A Real Electrician on Your RV, Not a Parts Changer

Most RV shops treat generators as an afterthought. We’re a working commercial and industrial electrical contractor — the same crew that installs whole-home Kohler standby power and paralleled commercial systems — and we bring that discipline to every RV.

Banner Electric technician servicing an Onan RV generator in the compartment
  • Real electricians, real load testing. Every install and every swap gets bench and in-coach load-tested before you leave the yard. We don’t hand you the keys and hope.
  • Onan diagnostic training. We read fault codes off the control board directly — not guesses off a symptom. If it’s a $12 relay, we find it in an hour. If it’s a stator or control board, we tell you fast.
  • Transfer switches done right. A bad transfer switch will happily burn a genset. We spec, wire, and label the ATS the same way we do on whole-home standby installs — grounded, bonded, and code-legal.
  • Firm quotes, itemized. Every RV quote we hand you is written, in dollars, before the wrench comes out. No verbal “probably around” and no surprise line items at pickup.
  • 60+ years, same family. Banner Electric has been powering Indiana since 1963. If we install it, we’re still going to be around when you need seasonal service in five years.
How It Works

From First Call to Load Test

We don’t make you fill out five forms and wait a week. Here’s the actual path from “my genset died” to “the coach is running.”

01

Call or Quote Request

Tell us the coach year, make, and what’s in the bay today. We’ll know within a call whether this is a swap, a repair, or a full new install.

02

Walkaround & Firm Quote

Bring the coach to Plymouth or we come to you. Fifteen-minute walkaround, and we hand you a written, itemized quote — parts, labor, and timing.

03

Schedule & Install

You approve the quote, we lock in a bay date. Most swaps are a one-day-in / one-day-out job. New installs and diesel jobs run longer — we’ll tell you upfront.

04

Load Test & Handoff

Every unit gets a live load test with both A/Cs cycled before you drive off. We walk you through the new control panel, exercise schedule, and warranty paperwork on the spot.
